Clinical Assessment and Palpation Skills Workshop

Clinical Assessment and Palpation Skills Workshop

26 & 27 June 2010

Sherborne, Dorset

This course is designed primarily for practitioners who have recently qualified to give them more confidence in relating to clients, giving feedback and working with difficult cases. It gives tools for assessment, palpation and relaying findings to clients in order to boost confidence on both sides. It concentrates on encouraging an increased sensitivity to responses during treatment, and an understanding of what those responses mean in terms of treatment possibilities. The course also covers tools for observing gait, posture and how to interpret findings in terms of appropriate treatment. It avoids any overlap with the material taught on the working with back pain course.

A wide range of Bowtech procedures will be included depending on those that the participants are in need of reviewing and enhancing. The course is very much participant-led depending on the need for clarification of procedures and the level of understanding of their clinical application. I have found that this understanding varies considerably not only from individual to individual but also from class to class.

Reasons behind each procedure will be given and live case studies are used to illustrate how Bowtech might be used in a clinical situation. Role-play is used to simulate the practitioner-client relationship and participants are asked to make conclusions as to how they would interact with clients and what procedures they would use given what they observe. Body-language and verbal skills are discussed.

The course is largely practical (hands-on) with a small theoretical component
